With a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and experience in the mental health field, she views writing not merely as a creative pursuit, but also as a means of understanding herself, the people around her, human emotions, and the circumstances that shape individual lives.

From Psychology to Poetry

Kathlyn Bennett’s literary identity has been shaped by her longstanding interest in psychology and human behaviour. Her inclination towards psychology developed during her school years, when she began exploring the subject as a way of understanding herself, her surroundings, and fellow human beings.

Alongside her academic pursuits, Bennett gradually developed an interest in English writing, using poetry, letters, and quotes to articulate thoughts, observations, emotions, and imagined possibilities.

Her writing journey began during her second year of undergraduate studies, when her first poem was published in an anthology. Since then, she has contributed English poems, letters, and quotes to several anthologies associated with different publishing houses.

By mid-2022, she completed her debut solo work, Hunter of Reveries, an anthology of English poetry and scribbles, which was subsequently published in 2024. Her literary journey continued with The Silent Slays of Vaga-lumes, alongside her latest collection The Warmth and Smears.

A Young Voice with a Multidimensional Creative Journey

Beyond psychology and literature, Bennett has a deep interest in art and handicrafts. Her creative interests include canvas, glass and fabric painting, mandala art, and other artistic forms. She has also explored Indian classical dance, having learned Bharatanatyam and some Mohiniyattam during her school years, while continuing to engage with contemporary, semi-classical, film-based, and spontaneous choreography whenever opportunities arise.

Her diverse artistic interests contribute to the visual and emotional quality of her writing, allowing her to approach experiences from different creative perspectives.

Throughout her journey, Bennett has been encouraged by her family, friends, teachers, and relatives, whose support has helped her continue exploring her passion for writing.

The philosophy that has remained central to her journey is simple yet powerful:

A piece of advice she received from her teachers, the motto has encouraged Bennett to continue pursuing her creative aspirations despite challenges. Today, she hopes to carry the same message to others, encouraging people across age groups to give themselves an opportunity to try, discover, learn, and continue moving forward.
